Winston Kipruto’s story began in rural Kenya, long before Kipruto Safaris was ever imagined.
Born in the early 1980s, Winston grew up in a home where welcoming others was simply part of everyday life.
One childhood memory remains particularly vivid.
Two safari vehicles arrived unexpectedly at his family home, carrying travelers from Canada. His father welcomed them without hesitation—opening the family home, preparing a traditional meal and sharing the warmth of Kenyan hospitality.
For Winston, it was more than an encounter with travelers.
It was his first glimpse of what travel could create.
Strangers became guests.
Guests became friends.
Stories crossed cultures.
A shared meal became a lasting memory.
That experience stayed with him.
A LIFE SHAPED BY TRAVEL
The name Kipruto carries a fitting connection to his journey. Traditionally associated with one born during a journey, it reflects a life shaped by movement, discovery and connection.
Winston went on to study at Kenya Utalii College, formally training in hospitality and tourism before beginning a career that would take him across East Africa.
His early years were spent with a luxury coastal safari company in Mombasa, followed by experience with a respected family-run safari operator in Nairobi.
Along the way, he learned that creating an exceptional safari is about far more than knowing where the animals are.
It is about understanding people.
Knowing when to slow down.
Knowing when to listen.
Knowing the difference between simply seeing Africa and truly experiencing it.

In 2024, Winston founded Kipruto Safaris with a clear vision: to create private, thoughtfully designed journeys that allow guests to experience East Africa through the eyes of people who know it as home.
Today, Winston remains personally involved in the planning and oversight of every journey.

Born and raised just outside the Maasai Mara, Masai grew up alongside one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife landscapes.
With more than two decades of guiding experience, his knowledge of the Mara goes far beyond maps and game-drive routes. He understands the rhythms of the wilderness, the movement of wildlife and the subtle signs that can turn an ordinary game drive into an extraordinary encounter.
His advantage? He knows the Mara as home.

Tonga was born and raised near Meru National Park, growing up surrounded by the landscapes and wildlife of central Kenya.
With more than 20 years behind the wheel and in the bush, he brings an extraordinary depth of experience to every journey.
Calm, observant and deeply familiar with Kenya’s diverse ecosystems, Tonga knows that some of the most memorable safari moments are often the ones you never planned for.
